Welcome to NVQ Assessor Training

How long will it take to become an NVQ Assessor? How much will it cost?

The answers to these questions depend largely on which Approved Centre (training organisation) you use, and what methodology they use to deliver the course: That said, there is a mandatory 10-week registration period before you will receive your certificate, however fast you complete the training and your Portfolio of evidence. The following is a general description and grouping of the way A1 Trainers structure their courses:

Part-time courses

… usually delivered at the Trainer’s site, often one evening a week for several weeks. This style is often delivered by colleges and will suit people who don’t otherwise have access to candidates or independent assessors, and whose time is flexible enough to fit in around the Trainer’s schedule.

Fast & Flexible courses

… some Trainers will deliver the A1 training in 1 or 2 days, and some will deliver them on site, including the first Assessment. This will suit busy companies who need to fit their staff training around flexible work schedules. Often these type of courses will expect the candidates and independent assessor to be provided.

Cost & Funding

… varies greatly, get quotes. At the time of writing no national funding was available to support getting A1 qualified; however check with your local Business Link whether there is any regional or sector-specific funding to support upskilling in this way.

Next Steps

If you are new to NVQs we recommend you take the following steps:

  1. Decide which vocational area(s) and NVQ Titles, Units and Levels you may want to assess and can demonstrate competence in.
  2. Either research Assessor requirements yourself online or through your employer, or look up your nearest Centre who delivers the NVQ course you want to assess, and ask them what the Assessor requirements are.  You could also ask them if they have any vacancies for A1 qualified Assessors for that NVQ.
  3. Be as clear as you can be about where you will find employment from as an NVQ Assessor, and be as sure as you can be that you will meet the needs of your prospective employer(s).

Once you are qualified …

  1. Apply for those well paid jobs!
